Cold War Kids.... They Don't Look Like Kids To Me...

Cold War Kids `Robbers and Cowards` came out in 2006 so they are overdue for a new album. Wait no longer, kiddies. `Loyalty to Loyalty` is the name of the new album. The California 4-piece placed 13 new songs on the album coming out through Shock in September. These guys are also touring in Aus soon so check out their website for details. MESHING funk, electro, hip hop, soul and anything else that lands in the mixing bowl, house veterans Stereo MCs certainly deliver with Double Bubble. Proving they’re as innovative as ever, Double Bubble is the sixth Album from UK based Rob Birch and Nick Hallam, and is set to add to their long list of awards, nominations and multi-selling albums. The first track of the album is called Gringo and it’s a Club goers dream. I have been a fan of these guys for many years now but this new record, I don’t think is their best work. Australian Indie Rockers The Whitlams are heading out on the road once again in support of their soon to be released 'best of package', which contains songs from their six studio albums.

The band will be performing at most of the usual cities around the country, and a few more out of the way ones, but it’s the Sydney show where audiences will be in for a real treat. There the band will perform backed by the Symphonie des Femmes, a 35 piece all female orchestra at Sydney’s State Theatre. New Zealand rockers The Datsuns are in the final stages of making their 4th studio album. For those who don’t know, they have established themselves a following in the alternative scene around the world over the past 8 years. Cooking Vinyl will release the yet to be titled new album in Europe in September. About the new album, guitarist Christian Livingstone says, “We recorded an album in Sweden - we went there because the people are very good-looking over there. That’s very important when you’re recording an album - you must surround yourself with good-looking people. We wrote it in Germany and went to Sweden and recorded it. It’s got a whole heap of different stuff. It’s not a record where every song sounds the same. There’s a psychedelic track, something quite epic, a punk song and a couple of pop songs - so it all comes under the umbrella of rock ’n’ roll. We’ve got short attention spans so we like to try different things.” I like his thinking, we are looking forward to hearing it. The, A Wonder Spring Night world tour will travel to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. The shows, which are part of a world tour, will also be his first national tour here since the 1980s. During his career he has racked up 49 Top 40 singles, 32 number-one hits, and an Academy Award for I Just Called To Say I Love You. Cover Of The Week

Its Cover of the Week time and this week I have found a brilliant cover of Rihanna’s SOS. The Cover was done for the Live Lounge in the UK and is very intricate and interesting. The cover is by British indie rock band, The Last Shadow Puppets, we haven’t done a story on these guys yet so to fill you in on who they are here is a short bio. The Last Shadow Puppets is a side project of Alex Turner from Sheffield band Arctic Monkeys and Miles Kane of Liverpool band The Rascals. Their first album, The Age of the Understatement was released in April in the UK, it went straight to No.1and while promoting the album they did this cover. ITS BRITNEY IN AN ELEVATOR, BITCH

Britney Spears has filmed her bit for Madonna’s upcoming ‘Sticky and Sweet’ tour this week in LA. In the video, Britney will be stuck in an elevator, look into the camera and says “its Britney bitch”. The scene is a send-up of their duet of some years back. While Britney is stuck in the elevator, the elevator music is that old Madonna song ‘Human Nature’. It was her 1994 hit, not the Michael Jackson song and not a medley of the Aussie boy band (thank God). The Britney piece will be one of those audience distraction pieces while Madonna goes off and does one of many costume changes during the show. THE BEATLES DRUM SELLS FOR £500,000

A drum featured on the cover of The Beatles 'Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ album has sold for over £500,000 at auction. The hand-painted bass drum was among a collection of 60s memorabilia, which in total fetched over £1 million at auction yesterday. The percussion instrument sold for £541,250, four times its original estimate. Other items under the hammer at London’s Christie’s auction house included John Lennon’s hand-written lyrics for his song 'Give Peace a Chance’, which sold for £421,250. A pair of Jimi Hendrix’s flares fetched £20,000 and one of his Marshall amps dating back to 1966 fetched £25,000. Have a look at some classic Beatles below to take you back to the ‘good old days’. The Verve’s first single in ten years is finally available for all to view. The song is promising and should keep old fans of the band happy. Singer Richard Ashcroft’s voice is as strong as ever. And just to win over a few nerds, the video even features a Reubens’ Tube. The song comes from their forthcoming album 'Fourth’, which will be released on August 19 via their own label 'On Your Own’. Coldplay’s album Viva La Vida has to date been the No.1 selling album in 36 countries around the world, including in the U.S., where it held the top spot for two weeks, and in the U.K. where the album has been No.1 for the last four weeks. Coldplay’s previous album, the 10 million-selling X&Y, reached No.1 in 32 countries in 2005. In the U.K. Viva La Vida is the fastest-selling album of the year with over the counter sales of more than 600,000 since its release on 12 June, while in Germany the album is already the biggest selling release of the year as well as the fastest. Well she is being compared as the American version of Lily Allen, but Katy Perry has proved that she has made her own mark by reaching the top of the US Charts. Her latest single, I Kissed A Girl has gone to No.1 and has held it’s position for a second week, her album One Of The Boys also debuted in the Top 10 on the Billboard 200. Her track has hit No. 2 in Aus and will probably go two No.1 next week with the rest of the world to follow suit very soon. I am not talking about myself because I am not that talented enough to make music. Cansei de Ser Sexy better known as CSS, is a Brazilian band from Sao Paulo. Their songs have an electro/rock sound, and are sung in both English and Portuguese; their lyrics mostly concern pop culture.

BLOC PARTY’S SURPRISE SINGLE

Well this is a bit of a surprise…. British Indie Rock super group, Bloc Party have surprised the public and the music industry be releasing a brand new single with no knowing that they were set to release a single or new album. The new single is called Mercury and the song has a similar Electronica sound to the previous single, "Flux".

Mercury will be released in august with their third studio album expected in late 08 into early 09. The video was simultaneously unveiled along with the song. These guys are a favourite of ours, their latest release in 2006 titled Pieces of the People We Love was a massive success in lots of countries around the world. While they are in the process of writing a new album they have done a track for the Grand Theft Auto Soundtrack 4, titled No Sex With Ben. One of the ‘Legends’ of American Rap and Hip-Hop, Nas who use to be known as Nasty Nas is back with some new material. For those who don't know, he has been around since the early nineties and has worked with everyone and I mean everyone! His ninth album, which is due for release this month is titled, Untitled and the first track of the album, is called Hero.
