Hurt Feelings

Flight of the Conchords
Flight of the Conchords

Flight of the Conchords is a New Zealand comedy duo composed of Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement. Billing themselves as "Formerly New Zealand's fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo", the group uses a combination of witty observation, characterisation and acoustic guitar music. Simply they are fricken hilarious. The boys are back with their second studio album, which basically comprises of songs from their TV show reworked. The first single, Hurt Feelings, of the new album, I Told You I Was Freaky, is another masterpiece. Check out Hurt Feelings(TV version) and my favorite track from their first album below.

Clare Bowditch

The extremely talented and beautiful Clare Bowditch is back with new music! The Aria award winning Australian sing/songwriter has spent the last year in Germany, writing and recording material for her new album which is due out early in 2010. I am a big fan of Clare's work, she takes her music to a new place with every album and keeps you guessing. The first single from her new album is called Start Of War, the music video was shot in Berlin whilst Clare was recording. Check it out below!

Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopez

Whilst I was on one of the many, many to many, social networking websites is use, I came across an old gem. Back in 2001 a year before the death of Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopez, The TLC member released her first and only solo work. The album was called Supernova and the only single from it was called The Block Party. One of my favorite sing-a-long songs when I was younger, The Block Party is a true masterpiece and a track that will always put a smile on my face. Check it out below!

Har Mar Superstar

Sean Matthew Tillmann, better known by his stage names of Har Mar Superstar and Sean Na Na, is an American singer with a bit of an edge. Releasing his first record in 2000 Har Mar has continued to keep his unique style while enjoying limited success in the alternative side of the music industry. Dark Touches is the latest studio album from Har Mar, which features his first single from the album, Tall Boy. Tall Boy feels like something we've seen and heard before, but just because it's not very original doesn't mean it's not good. It's damn good! Check it out below.

Meghan Tonjes
Meghan Tonjes

The very talented and beautiful Meghan Tonjes is one of our favorite American singer-songwriters. Meghan has been releasing her music independently for a while now, but with the high quality music she is producing at the moment, I doubt it will be very long before a record company snaps her up. Her latest masterpiece, Just Fine, is simply that, a masterpiece. A very simple track, lyrically driven, that sounds like a monster ballad you might hear Beyonce or Leona Lewis singing. Check out Just Fine below.

Meghan Tonjes is her name and covers is her style. We have been following Meghan for a while now on her youtube channel, where she performs a range of her own material as well as some great covers. With just her guitar, her beautiful voice and some good recording skills, Meghan shows the world that independent artist's have a place in the mixed up world of the music industry. The latest cover from Meghan is of American Pop/R&B artist Ciara and her most recent hit Love Sex And Magic. Check out the cover bellow as well as the original and another favourite of ours where Meghan takes on Lily Allen.

Ladyhawke has always been Magical in our eyes, with her platnium selling debut album blowing not only us, but the music industry away. One of our favourite songs from Pip Brown's(Ladyhawke) spectacular debut album has finally been given a single release - and they've even popped together a rather fetching video clip to accompany it. Magic is the 5th and most likly the last single from Pip's album. In other Ladyhawke news this morning she recevied five Aria Award Nominations for her latest work, Congrats!. Tiesto
I Will Be Here

Tiesto is a Dutch Dance Veteran, try saying that quickly three times, who began taking over the european dance scene in the early ninties. I have always respected Tiesto, but I wouldn't say I was a fan, until now. For his new album the Dutch Dance Veteran has teamed up with Sneaky Sound System who feature on his first single, I Will Be Here. This track stays on track of Tiesto's progressive trance style, but it's sooo better than the average because Miss Connie Mitchell is singing! Check out the song and very cool vid below!

Who doesn't love themselves some MSTRKRFT! I sure do. MSTRKRFT, pronounced Master-Craft is electronic duo from Canada who we have featured many times in the past and who are famous not only for their own material but for their talented remixing skills as well. The Duo released their second album a few months back and the latest single from the album is called Heartbraker. The track features american singer John Legend and certainly is one of my favourites of these very talented dudes. Check out the video below!

Natalie Imbruglia
Natalie Imbruglia

Natalie Imbruglia strikes me as one of those artists who don't really get the recognition or the accolades they deserve. While i wouldn't say that I am a 'fan' but I think she makes some cool music now an then. Her first new album in 4 years is out at the start of next month titled, Come to life, the first single of it is called Want. A track written by Chris martin of Coldplay, Want is a return to the sort of music I like from Natalie. The video for Want was released today and it shows a very personal and sexy side of Natalie. Check it out below!

Phoenix at the Palace

Phoenix
Phoenix

I was totally blown away by the Phoenix show at the Palace on Monday. Despite the many chicken legs on stage, there was something incredibly powerful about this show. I have been a Phoenix fan for years but only just saw them live for the first time. Thinking the key tracks would come last, I took my time to get to the gig only to make a mad dash when I walked in the door hearing Lisztermania exploding from the stage.

I took my usual vantage point on the third floor but afterwards regretted not getting into the overexcited crowd below. From my birds eye view I could see how pumped everyone was. The most electric gig I have been to since…probably last time the YYY’s were here. The band were amazing. Focused, having fun and getting involved with the crowd. They said a few times what an amazing crowd it was – to be expected really but unlike most circumstances, I genuinely felt they meant it. Word from an internal unnamed source after the gig said it was their most rewarding show this tour.

In being critical, the lights were a bit much. The strobing was too prolonged. Anyone on pills at those moments would definitely have been freaking out. But there was one very striking moment when three lights intercepted Thomas Mars (vocals) so it looked like he was at the center of a six pointed star. Pretty cool.

Too Young was splendid but the real treat was 1901 with a relapsing extension at the end. Yay. We love you Phoenix.

Lisa Mitchell
Lisa Mitchell

A few weeks ago we showed you the first single from Aussie Up and comer, Lisa Mitchell. The track, Coin Laundry, is already being spun on radio like there’s no tomorrow and now we have a beautiful Music Video to! I have always liked Lisa Mitchell since she first appeared on Aus Idol a few years ago. To see her leave that side of the music industry, crate her own style and succeed is really cool. She seems to be just getting better and better. Check out the cute vid for Coin Laundry and grab a copy of her new album Wonder now!

Ready For The Weekend

July 23rd 2009 03:10
Calvin Harris
Calvin Harris

There are lots of 'Lovers' and 'Haters' out there, especially when it comes to Dance/Pop music. Scottish DJ and producer, Calvin Harris, is certainly one of those artists who cops a lot of 'crap' at the same time as selling millions of records. Whether you love or hate Harris's music, is has to be said that he can sure make a damn catchy, and in my opinion an above average dance track. It’s a rarity these days, with the everyone having more and more access to the technologies, there is a lot of crap dance tracks out there. Mr. Harris is set to release his second studio album early next month, titled Ready for The Weekend. Ready For The Weekend is also the title of his second single of the upcoming album after I'm Not Alone which spent many weeks at No.1 on the UK charts and this track is expected to do the same when released next week. Check out the MV for Ready For the Weekend below and let us know what you think? Love or Hate?
