IS COLDPLAY THE LAST OF THE SUPER BANDS

June 9th 2008 23:20
Coldplay

It is no wonder the music world is so eagerly awaiting the release of the new Coldplay album. Coldplay may very well be the last of the super bands. The release of Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends is without a doubt the most anticipated release on the planet in some time. Maybe that is because Coldplay is the last of the great groups. Here is a interesting thought, the 21st Century has so far failed to produce one superstar band. Think about it, Coldplay released their first EP in 1998. Who has come out of the 21st Century and captured the world musically since Coldplay?
Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends
I can't think of one who has achieved that amount of success. If you can think of one please leave a comment and have a listen to the title track from Coldplays new album below. Fan of Mystromusic.com? Then subscribe to blog or visit our myspace www.myspace.com/mystro_music

I hate to disagree, but Coldply aren't a superband. I don't think there is a band in the world that has that status right now. Not like the Beatles, Zepplin or even Nirvana had in their height. Maybe the Red Hot Chili Peppers or Metallica were once, but now there just 'big bands'.

Maybe I just have a biased opinion here. I've always thought Coldplay sounded like a bad Radiohead cover band without the musical talent. haha

You're totally right that there hasn't been big band since the turn of the century. Heaps of bands have become big for one or two albums, but then noone cares about them when they're not on the radio.

Thanks Geoff for your comment! I agree that Coldplay haven't quite reached the heights of Zepplin or Nirvana but they are not far off as far as record sales or Fanbase. I haven't always been the biggest fan of Coldplay but I think they are the Biggest we have got at the moment. 4 albums in and they are still selling 10 copies per album, which is very unusual these days. I wonder why bands aren’t having the same impact or success these days to say 10 years ago. Is it just less people are buying music or is it because their are a lot more genres available to a wider group of society, so we are not all listening to the same things. Who knows?
