FREE MUSIC FOR EVERYONE
May 6th 2008 00:16
Over the last 6 months or so there has been an epidemic of free music happening. It’s probably been happening for a while but when Radiohead decided to give out their album for whatever people thought is was worth i.e. Free, a whole bunch of bands decided to follow suit. The most recent of bands to give away their music for free is Coldplay, Their first single ‘Violet Hill’ was downloaded more than 600,000 times in the first 24-hours it was made available. Now after Radiohead’s experiment they have said they won’t do it again. What a surprise! "Yes. It was a one-off in terms of a story. It was one of those things where we were in the position of everyone asking us what we were going to do. I don't think it would have the same significance now anyway, if we chose to give something away again. It was a moment in time," Said Thom Yorke, the lead singer of Radiohead. What are your thoughts on this? Is it viable to give free music away and be successful? Have a look at Coldplays new single Violet Hill below.
